DLRG E-Learning Film Production

E-learning video production and 2D animation for the DLRG

For the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft e.V. (DLRG), a comprehensive e-learning film package was produced across several production phases.

Scope of Services

The production covered multiple shooting days at various locations — including sports facilities and swimming pools — to create instructional film material. The focus was on impressions, interviews, and the depiction of training procedures for the education and advanced training of lifeguards.

In addition, a professional 2D animation on the biological mechanism of pressure equalization in the ear during diving was produced. This animation illustrates complex medical processes in a way that is easy for learners to understand and was delivered both as a standalone module and in a 16:9 version with voice-over narration.

Equipment Used

Professional camera systems, mobile lighting kits, and audio equipment were used for the shooting days. Jakobs Medien’s Urban Studio served as a controlled studio environment for interview recordings.

Post-Production

Editing, color correction, motion graphics, and the integration of the 2D animation sequences into the e-learning modules.

The Bigger Picture

The DLRG is Germany’s largest volunteer water rescue organization, responsible for training tens of thousands of lifeguards each year. As the organization modernized its education programs, it needed professional video content that could serve as a reliable, standardized learning resource across all regional chapters. Jakobs Medien was brought on board to produce a comprehensive film package that would form the backbone of this new e-learning infrastructure.

Combining Real-World Footage with Animation

The strength of this project lay in its blend of formats. On-location footage at pools and sports facilities gave learners an authentic view of real training procedures and techniques, while the custom 2D animation on pressure equalization during diving translated a complex medical concept into something immediately understandable. By combining documentary-style interviews, instructional demonstrations, and explanatory animation, the final modules appeal to different learning styles and keep learners engaged throughout.

A Scalable Training Resource

The completed e-learning films are now used across the DLRG’s nationwide training network, providing consistent, high-quality instruction regardless of location. For the organization, the investment in professional video production means that every new lifeguard receives the same standard of education. For Jakobs Medien, the project showcased our ability to deliver educational content that is both technically rigorous and visually compelling — a combination that makes learning more effective and more enjoyable.
