Merging multiple event locations into a single stream, creating a protected B2B atmosphere while benefiting from unlimited reach: The EFI case clearly demonstrates why the advantages of virtual formats can no longer be overlooked in event planning. Via Twitter, the handover ceremony at the Federal Chancellery and the subsequent Q&A session between the press and the expert commission were livestreamed from our studio with a stage.
A High-Profile Setting
The annual handover of the EFI report to the German Chancellor is one of the most closely watched events in the country’s science and innovation policy landscape. The expert commission’s findings shape government policy, and the publication generates significant media interest. For the 2023 edition, Jakobs Medien once again produced the entire livestream — merging the ceremony at the Federal Chancellery with a studio-based press conference into a single, seamless broadcast.
Combining Security with Reach
The production had to satisfy two seemingly conflicting requirements: maximum public visibility and a controlled, secure environment for the press Q&A. We solved this by streaming the official handover ceremony openly via Twitter, while hosting the subsequent question-and-answer session in a private virtual room accessible only to accredited journalists. This dual-channel approach allowed the public to witness the formal moment while preserving the journalistic integrity of the press conference.
A Proven Format
The positive feedback from the commission confirmed that well-executed virtual event production can match — and in some respects surpass — the impact of a purely physical event. The 2023 livestream reached a broad online audience in real time, generated strong engagement on social media, and provided the commission with a professional recording for archival and future reference.
Even in year two after the pandemic began, you still encounter many poorly executed virtual presentations. That's why it needs to be said when something was done really well.
