Portrait Films for the Agricultural Congress

Organic vs conventional? We tell stories from the field.

For the German Federal Ministry for the Environment BMUV, we produced three videos each to complement the programme of the Agricultural Congress in January 2022 and 2023. The focus was on portraying individuals whose current projects are already bridging the gap between conventional and organic farming.

Storytelling from the Field

The Agricultural Congress is one of Germany’s most important policy events in the food and agriculture sector. Rather than producing conventional promotional content, the ministry wanted journalistic portrait films that would give a human face to the complex debate around sustainable farming. Jakobs Medien developed a documentary approach, visiting farms and agricultural projects across the country to capture the people and the work behind the headlines.

How We Brought the Stories to Life

Each film followed a protagonist — a farmer, a researcher, or a project leader — whose daily work demonstrates that conventional and organic agriculture do not have to be opposites. Our production team spent time on location with each subject, filming interviews, working routines, and the landscapes that define their livelihoods. In post-production, we crafted narrative arcs that were accessible to a broad audience while still conveying the substance of each project. The films were delivered in formats suitable for the congress stage, online distribution, and social media.

Impact and Reception

The portrait films became a highlight of both congress editions, offering delegates a grounded, human perspective on agricultural policy. They proved that well-told stories can communicate complex topics more effectively than data alone, and they continue to serve as a lasting resource for the ministry’s public communications.
