German Climate Pavilion – COP28 Dubai 2023

Media technology, event platform and live production at the UN Climate Conference in Dubai

For the UN Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai, Jakobs Medien delivered the complete media technology infrastructure and live production for the German Climate Pavilion on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office. From 30 November to 12 December 2023, we were responsible for the design, concept, and technical implementation of the pavilion in the Blue Zone – including the event platform, website, and daily live production.

Concept & Project Planning

As technical general contractor, we oversaw the entire concept development and project planning for the German Climate Pavilion. Technical planning encompassed power, lighting, camera, audio, monitor, network, and PC infrastructure, as well as wireless frequency licensing. We produced technical drawings, floor plans, and 3D visualisations of the pavilion and coordinated exhibition construction planning with the UNFCCC exhibition service provider.

Event Platform & Programme Planning

Together with our partner iveo, we managed the complete programme planning for the pavilion. The event platform enabled the allocation of all event slots, speaker management with photos and biographies, and an online application process for event slots. Through the bidirectional API connection, all event information was automatically distributed to the website and display systems in the pavilion.

Website & Digital Presence

We developed the accessible, responsive website cop28.german-climate-pavilion.de featuring live stream integration, an interactive event overview, and organisation and speaker directories. Each event page was equipped with a YouTube livestream player and Slido for interactive polls.

Remote Studio & Live Streaming

From our studio in Berlin, we operated a remote studio with a direct connection to the venue in Dubai. We managed virtual participants via video conferencing software, broadcast all livestreams to YouTube and the Federal Foreign Office website, and handled virtual speaker management. All programme signals were recorded and archived both with and without graphics.

On-Site Production

On-site in the Blue Zone of the Expo grounds, we managed the complete show direction for all live programme items. Our team was on the ground daily, handling video, audio, livestream, interpretation, and video conferencing technology. The German Climate Pavilion served as a central information and meeting space for the German government’s activities and civil society stakeholders.

Technology Deployed

Professional PTZ cameras, video switchers, multi-channel streaming encoders, PA sound system, digital mixing consoles, wireless microphones and headsets, LED screens, and professional network infrastructure for interference-free transmission of all audio and video signals.
