For the UN Climate Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Jakobs Medien served as the general contractor for the German Climate Pavilion on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office. This meant not only media technology and live production, but full management of all trades – from exhibition construction and technical infrastructure to the coordination of all service providers on-site. In collaboration with our partner iveo, we were also responsible for the entire programme planning and event management throughout the two-week conference at the Baku Olympic Stadium. In addition to direct commissions from the Federal Foreign Office, we regularly work as technical production partners for agencies – whether as full-service providers or with specialised services such as streaming, directing, or remote production.
Construction Management & Trade Coordination
As general contractor, we managed the entire construction process and coordination of all trades for the German Pavilion. This included overseeing architecture and exhibition construction, communicating with external service providers and local builders, and conducting technical inspections of all installations. From floor plans and 3D visualisations to safety and sustainability concepts – we were responsible for the entire pavilion from planning through to handover, coordinating all trades on schedule.
Concept & Project Planning
Technical planning encompassed power, lighting, camera, audio, monitor, network, and PC infrastructure, as well as wireless frequency licensing. Our project plan defined all deadlines, milestones, and contacts across the full six-month contract period. Exhibition construction planning was coordinated in close collaboration with the UNFCCC exhibition service provider.
Programme Planning & Event Platform
Together with our partner iveo, we managed the complete programme planning for the German Climate Pavilion. Through iveo’s event platform, we organised the allocation of all event slots, coordination with organisers and organisations, and speaker management including photos and biographies. The system enabled role-based user management for all stakeholders, an online application process for event slots, and digital assignment of technical requirements such as Zoom integration, simultaneous interpretation, and Slido polls. We configured the bidirectional API connection to the website and set up automatic distribution of all event information to display systems in the pavilion. Editable production views enabled our team to control lower thirds and graphics in real time directly from the platform.
Design & Development
We developed a print-ready design for the entire pavilion including a wordmark for the German Pavilion as specified by the Federal Foreign Office. A key visual and audiovisual motion design for digital use formed the basis for social media packages and event display content.
Website & Digital Presence
We developed an accessible, responsive website with the following main sections: a homepage with live stream integration, an interactive event overview with links to individual pages, and organisation and speaker directories with search functionality. Each event page featured a YouTube livestream player and Slido for interactive polls. The website communicated bidirectionally with the event platform and automatically updated all event, speaker, and organisation information.
Remote Studio & Live Streaming
From our studio in Berlin, we operated a remote studio with a direct connection to the venue in Baku. From here, we managed virtual participants via video conferencing software (Webex/Zoom), broadcast all livestreams to YouTube and the Federal Foreign Office website, and handled virtual speaker management. All programme signals were recorded and archived both with and without graphics.
On-Site Production
On-site, we managed the complete show direction for all live programme items – both digital and in-person. This included the technical execution of video, audio, livestream, interpretation, and video conferencing technology. Our team was on the ground for 12 hours daily, managing pavilion operations including evening receptions for up to 150 attendees. The pavilion served as an information, event, and meeting space for the German government’s wide-ranging activities and civil society stakeholders working to accelerate climate-friendly and climate-resilient transformation.
