Live Production – German Climate Pavilion

Complete media technology infrastructure and 45+ live events at the UN Climate Conference

For the UN Climate Conference COP30 in Belem, Brazil, we at Jakobs Medien delivered the complete media technology infrastructure and live production for the German Climate Pavilion. As the general contractor for media technology and conference services, we were responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of all technical systems, the development of a multilingual website, and the daily live production of over 45 events during the two-week conference. For event management, we coordinated the implementation of the professional event platform provided by our partner my-iveo.de.

Concept & Project Planning

As the general contractor for media technology, we oversaw the entire concept development and project planning for the German Climate Pavilion. This included creating a detailed requirements profile, developing technical drawings with floor plans and dimensions, and producing a virtual walkthrough 3D visualization of the pavilion. We developed the security concept (emergency exits, room access, barriers) and a sustainability concept for materials, design, and recycling. We coordinated the technical exhibition construction planning in close collaboration with our architecture partner GTP2, the local partner DMDL, and the UN exhibition service provider. Our project plan defined all deadlines, milestones, and contacts for the project duration. Technical planning encompassed power, lighting, camera, audio, monitor, network, and PC infrastructure, as well as wireless frequency licensing with the Brazilian authorities.

Event Platform & Content Management System

For the professional management of all events, we coordinated the implementation of the event platform from our partner my-iveo.de. The system enabled role-based user management for all stakeholders (organizers, organizations, technology, production), an online application process for event slots, and automated speaker management with photos and biographies. The platform allowed the digital assignment of technical requirements such as Zoom integration, simultaneous interpretation, and Slido polls. We configured the bidirectional API connection to the website and set up the automatic distribution of all event information to display systems in the pavilion. Editable production views enabled our team to control lower thirds and graphics in real time directly from the platform.

Website & Digital Presence

We developed an accessible, multilingual website with the following main sections: a homepage with live stream integration, an interactive event overview with links to individual pages, and organization and speaker directories with search functionality. Each event page was equipped with a YouTube livestream player and Slido for interactive polls. The website communicated bidirectionally with the event platform and automatically updated all event, speaker, and organization information. Additionally, we developed a key visual and motion design for social media as well as display content for the pavilion.

Remote Studio & Live Streaming

From our studio in Berlin, we operated a remote studio with a direct connection to the venue in Belem. From here, we managed virtual participants via video conferencing software, broadcast all livestreams to YouTube and the Federal Foreign Office website, and handled virtual speaker management. All program signals were recorded and archived both with and without graphics. Over several months, we provided remote studio capacity for preparation and test runs.

Video & Broadcasting Technology

On-site, we installed a complete broadcasting infrastructure consisting of professional PTZ cameras, video switchers, encoders for multi-channel streaming, and extensive converter technology. The video conferencing integration enabled the seamless inclusion of virtual speakers into the live program. Due to on-site internet issues, we integrated LTE streaming solutions as a backup system on short notice. All signals were simultaneously distributed to LED screens in the pavilion, YouTube, and the website.

Audio Technology & Sound Systems

The sound system comprised professional digital mixing consoles with monitoring for audio engineers, PA systems for the main sound reinforcement, and nearfield monitors for the technical production booth. For microphones, an extensive set of headsets, wireless dual receivers, and stands was deployed. The professional network infrastructure ensured interference-free transmission of all audio and video signals.

Simultaneous Interpretation & Conference Technology

For press conferences with virtual simultaneous interpretation, we installed professional pocket receiver systems, additional lecterns, and complete audio and encoder technology for multilingual live broadcasts. A specialized simultaneous interpretation technician managed the system on-site. The multilingual website programming enabled content display in multiple languages. For the delegation office, we additionally installed infrared conference technology.
